About Our Trips | Interesting Links

Howard Blackburn was built in 1951 as an ocean-going yacht, with seaworthiness and comfort in mind. She was designed by one of the greatest naval architects of the early 1900's, John G. Alden.

Constructed of wood, she has a lot of the character and feel of the classic wooden boat she is.

Howard Blackburn is 48 feet in length, ketch rigged and very easy to sail.

Mark and Terry became her owners in 1995 and brought her to the Chesapeake area. Mark grew up sailing on the bay and has a lot of knowledge of the area. He enjoyed sailing so much, he decided to make it his profession. He has been a licensed U.S.C.G. captain for 18 years. Terry grew up on the New Jersey shore and has always enjoyed the water. She has a vast knowledge of the marine environment and holds a degree in biology from Rutgers University. She is also a naturalist.

They both enjoy getting people out on the water and also making the trip a learning experience. Families with children welcome.

Take a sail on the Chesapeake for the day or enjoy a quiet evening sail as you watch the sunset or gaze at the moon on a starlit night. The decks have plenty of room to sit and relax. You can help sail the boat and take a turn at the wheel.

Try a 2-day overnight trip to Baltimore harbor, St. Michael's, or Rock Hall. Go ashore, enjoy the sights, and have a meal at a seafood restaurant. Anchor in a quiet cove and just relax, try fishing, or take a swim.
